Ingredients You Will Need to Make Acorn Cookies
This Acorn Kiss Cookies recipe is as simple as it gets! You will need just four ingredients to make these Fall acorn cookies.
- Hershey’s Kisses – use any flavor you like, although I love the chocolate-peanut butter combo here!
- Mini Nutter Butters or Mini Nilla Wafers – I like the grid pattern on the mini Nutter Butters, but both work great!
- Chocolate Chips – I use Nestle, but others taste great, too!
- Chocolate Frosting – I prefer milk chocolate but dark chocolate is also super tasty!
How to Make Acorn Cookies with Hershey’s Kisses – Step-by-Step Instructions
These Easy Acorn Cookies come together so quickly and easily. Follow the step-by-step instructions below and have fun!
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
- Begin by lining a large baking sheet or a flat surface with parchment paper.
- Separate the Mini Nutter Butters and put the unfrosted sides to the side.
- Place an unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss and chocolate chip next to each cookie.
Step 2: Assemble the Acorns
- Next, carefully but firmly press the flat side of the Kiss onto the peanut butter side of one of the cookies. If you need extra hold, add a tiny dab of chocolate frosting.
Step 3: Add the Stems
- Then, using a toothpick or small spoon, add a small amount of chocolate frosting to the flat side of a chocolate chip and then press it onto the top of the cookie/acorn to create the stem.
Step 4: Let Them Set
- Allow the Acorn Cookies to stand for at least 10 minutes to set.
- Serve and enjoy!
Need extras? Use the other cookie sides, the ones without the peanut butter. Simply add a dab of chocolate frosting to act as the ‘glue’ and go from there!
Recipe Tips and Tricks
- If the Kisses don’t stick to the cookies, use a dab of chocolate frosting for extra hold.
- Need more cute Acorn treats? Simply double or triple the recipe.
- Make it a family activity and have fun!
Variations
One of my favorite things about this Fall food craft recipe is its versatility! There are so many delicious possibilities here!
Nut-Free Option: If you or your family are nut-free, swap in Mini Nilla Wafers for the Nutter Butters. Any mini cookie with a smooth side will work!
Flavor Twists: Try using different flavors of Kisses such as dark chocolate, milk chocolate, peppermint, or even Hugs.
Stem Alternatives: Peanut butter chips, milk chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips, or even mini chocolate chips – they all make great options for the stems.
Add Leaves: Good with frosting? Use Fall-colored icings to pipe on leaves to the top of the mini Nilla Wafers next to the stems.
How Do I Store Acorn Cookies?
Once the Acorn Cookies have set, they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 10 days. I don’t recommend storing them in the refrigerator.
You can also freeze them in an airtight, freezer-safe Ziploc bag. They will last for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, defrost the Acorn Cookies at room temperature before serving. Because they get very hard when frozen, check that they are fully thawed before eating!
